FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
Undergrads – We are able to host a select number of undergraduates for research credit, internships or senior projects. Students may work in the lab for as little as one semester or multiple years. Morehouse students can also seek support for research training and projects in the VRI through one of the College’s “future research scholars” programs--John Hopps Research Scholars Program, MBRS-RISE Program; Ronald E. McNair Program; LSAMP; MARC U*STAR; HBCU-UP and NIMH-COR. Students who are not enrolled at Morehouse College are also welcome to join our lab, and we are happy to host summer scholars as well. Please contact Dr. Vereen by e-mail about your interests.

Grads and Postdocs – If you are interested in working with Dr. Vereen, or having him serve as a member of your committee, please send Dr. Vereen an e-mail with your interests and CV. Dr. Vereen is an Affiliated Investigator with Georgia Institute of Technology, and the Center for Global Safe Water at Emory University.

Fellowships in Research and Science Teaching (FIRST) is a successful program that provides postdoctoral fellows with both research support and training in teaching methods that are useful to their career development. The FIRST Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award (K12) (IRACDA) is supported by the Division of Training, Workforce Development, and Diversity at NIGMS, one of the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Vereen is a former FIRST fellow, and he has mentored several FIRST postdoctoral fellows as a teaching mentor. If you are interested in the FIRST program, or having him serve as a mentor, please contact Dr. Vereen by e-mail about your interests.

High School Juniors and Seniors internship – We are able to host a select number of high school juniors and seniors during the summer for a minimum 4-week experience. Special consideration is given to Morehouse College pre-Freshman students who are Biology or STEM majors.  Students will conduct hands-on science experiments to learn and develop basic skills that scientists use in a laboratory setting. Students get to experience the scientific enterprise and learn about the roles played by scientists. Students are provided with resources to help them understand the college application process, find scholarships and mentors, and make a successful transition to college. Students must be at least 16 years or older on June 15 and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale). Students with a GPA of 2.75 and 3.0 should apply if their grades have shown steady improvement. If you are interested, please send Dr. Vereen an e-mail with your interests and resume.  Letters of reference are not required but may aid in selection.
